Australian rugby league's governing body has stated that participants who enter the “rebel” R360 competition will be barred for 10 seasons.

The new league, which plans to launch in 2026, is seeking to lure athletes from both codes with lucrative deals and a slimmed-down game calendar.

Top National Rugby League players have allegedly been contacted by the breakaway group, which will include multiple men's teams and four women's teams located in key urban centers globally.

Samoa's the player, who represents his NRL club in the NRL, has confirmed he has had talks with the breakaway league.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also believed to be considering joining the new competition.

A group of union nations, among them Australia, recently announced a prohibition on players joining R360 participating in test matches.

“We have consulted our teams and we've taken firm action,” stated Australian Rugby League Commission head the official.

“Regrettably, there will continually be entities that seek to pirate our code for potential financial gain.

“They don't invest in pathways or the advancement of athletes. They only leverage the efforts of existing bodies, jeopardizing careers of financial loss while profiting themselves.

“In truth, they represent, imitating the sport.”

The organization is established by retired international Mike Tindall and supported by private investors.

After the possible union bans were revealed last week, it said: “We want to work together as part of the international rugby schedule.

“The series is structured with tailored timetables for male and female sides and we will release all players for test matches, as specified in their agreements.”

R360 will request authorization for its proposals from the international authority, rugby union's regulatory group, at its council meeting in the coming year.
