This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that invalidated her legal standing to occupy the role. Official Departure US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, announced Habba's resignation on Monday. She commented that the judicial decision made it impossible for Habba to effectively run her office. "Do not interpret following the order as giving up," she declared. "This battle will now reach across the country." Court Ruling The departure follows closely on a federal appellate panel found that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is expected to impact many prosecutions in New Jersey. The court said that a temporary posting that did not receive confirmation by the US Senate breached the statute on vacant positions. Future Role and Reaction Bondi said that the former prosecutor will stay on at the DOJ as a top consultant. She will pursue additional appeals of the court's action, in the hope of achieving a different outcome. Writing online, the Attorney General contended that the court "should not be able to second-guess the executive's selection of attorneys responsible for performing the primary duty of the administration of criminal prosecution." Record and Legacy Bondi highlighted her tenure and pointed out that during her run, the Newark saw a significant drop in criminal activity. Additionally that the Camden recorded its first summer in 50 years without a homicide. Connection to Donald Trump The 41-year-old attorney, originally became part of Trump's personal legal team in 2021. She went on to defended Trump in his New York criminal case in the previous year, leading to his conviction on multiple felony counts of financial record manipulation. Prior to assuming the federal prosecutor position, Donald Trump had announced he was selecting her as his presidential counsellor if re-elected, describing the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a "tireless advocate for justice".
