🔗 Share this article Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday. Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.” Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition. “Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.” Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials. The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped. Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby. “The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern. “There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.” Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair. He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.” Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
